Okay, so...While I can imagine most people on DA were really taken with drawing as kids, I never liked it particularly. Always rather was the writing type. At that, I was a natural, and so I tended be a lot more interested in picturing stories in my head than doodling them on paper.

I was quite content with it, too, until I started mastering my writing a bit more, and now I feel I can afford to spend some of this time on trying to learn another form of art, but...I don't know how.

I keep getting frustrated whenever I draw with a ref, it feels like cheating, but if I try something of my own, I get it all wrong and I make no progress. And I don't take any drawing/painting lessons atm. So I would like to ask you people your opinion :

Is there anything that could help me improving other than drawing with refs ? How much does one improve while constantly doing this, anyway ? I know it's pretty important...But right now I find it really frustrating and I would like to know if I somehow miss something important with my small means.

I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Hi there. So let's see, a presentation...Mmh...First and foremost, I'm a writer. But you won't see any of my texts on DA, as it's in french, plus I'm a bit on the paranoid side. I've been reading books ever since I was old enough to understand and own one, and they're a very fond memory of my childhood. Words flow constantly in my head, and when I was twelve or something like that, I got frustrated of not having any book telling the type of story I wanted at the moment, and told myself "Right, so why not write one myself with everything I want to read in it, then ?". This is how I started writing.

I always try new things, and never seem to finish any of them.
I like to think I'll come back to it later, and not abandon it like a poor lazy girl. That's the case of the jewellery handcrafting I tried some weeks ago. I enjoyed it, but I soon realized I need money to buy more material, which I don't have in the long run, sadly. Well, not yet, anyway.
I also write very, very slowly (and you can add another "very" here, it's an understatement), for I have a very good idea of what I want, and it's not always easy to put a finger on how exactly I am going to transcribe that. But I do write at least a little everyday.

Recently I've been trying watercolor. I love the feeling, more so than the one of drawing, for example, which I didn't use to enjoy much before that, and rediscovered for the occasion. Expect to see more of that.

The shots here are my own and may serve as reference, but don't hesitate to use it too in your art, as long as it is not for anything vulgar. Be sure to link me back to the result and put my account in the disclaimers. This is all.

Thanks couleur-chocolat. I drew this a looooong time-ago (like 1995) when I was going through my gothic/industrial phase (I think all artists should experience the gothic phase at least once in their lives). I was able to check out some of your jewelry, I really enjoyed "Lantern Dream". We have a couple of jewelry students taking the metal casting class at my school. It's a tough passion to endulge due to the investments.
